| COMPOSITOR | COMPOSITION | SCORE | POINTS | DESCRIPTION by author | |
| Preiszner | Piano Sonata mov 3 | 9.57 | 10 | Piano Sonata III. movement. It`s a little homage for Prokofiev in a simple sonata-form. I`ve used "XG Grand piano K" for this file. I hope you will enjoy it, because I`ve never made better than this piece:) | |
| Shawn Beard | Spanish Sowcase Festival | 9.23 | 9 | Scored for classical guitar and orchestra, this piece is also my 5th and final variation on an original theme. My intention was to provide music that's a little more "cinematic", a little more colorful, with a kind of flamenco feel, and including some elements of folk dance, such as might be heard at an outdoor party in the hills of Spain. I used Cakewalk and superb Merlin soundfont for the guitar, flutes, and oboes only - the rest of the gang uses Soundblaster Live 8 mb defaults. Bring your own castanets. Name: The Spanish Sowcase Festival Overture. | |
| Seth Neuffer | A Journey in the Flying Machine | 9.18 | 8 | Category: Orchestral. SBLive users: For optimal results, adjust EAX settings to "Concert Hall". This MIDI has been compressed from it's original 2-Port/32 Channel version. I was unable to squeeze all 21 voices into only 16 General MIDI channels - so to avoid channel and controller conflicts, I had to mute Track 17 (the contrabass part). For those that do have multiple MIDI-port capabilities on their sound modual, please un-mute track 17 and change the patch to #43 (or contrabass)... or download the full 2-port version from my website. | |
| Shawn Beard | Symphony 1, mov 4 | 9.13 | Last movement of my first symphony. this was rewritten with just GM in mind, to accomodate as many different listeners' setup / equipment as possible. With repeats, and in the classical style, it's still short enough to zip through. | ||
| Lavio Pareschi | Progressive Divertimento | 8.87 | 7 | Category: mixed. Composed using GM Merlin soundfont. It's a kind of divertimento mixing instruments of rock and orchestra to achieve a contemporary, creative and progressive effect. It tries to sustain all time an evolving pace and a crescendo pressure between surprising variations and rhythm/chord concatenations. | |
| Gerd Prengel | String Quartet, mov 4 | 8.78 | 6 | Category: Classical, orchestral. Soundcard: Miro 1 PCM Pro. Description: The last musical thoughts Beethoven left to us before his death are sketches for a stringquintet in C major. There is a complete introduction and sketches for the main themes of the following movements. These sketches fascinated me very much and I was curious how these themes could be developed. So I wrote a complete string quartet making use of these themes. Here I present the 4th movement, a vivid Rondo. I tried to elaborate Beethoven's theme in several ways: with numorous parts, longer melodious cantabile parts and conflicting fugatos in the development. The Coda has two parts: a slow expressive variation of the main theme in c minor and a furious Presto. Because I find the solo strings with my soundcard (Miro 1 PCM Pro) not so pleasing I use a midi version with piano voice. | |
| Pat Jacobs | Themes of an Angry Specter | 8.74 | 5 | I would like to submit this composition into your MIDI contest. This is the first time I've ever submitted any of my pieces, and actually one of my first MIDI compositions ever, so I'm very curious on what kinda of feedback I get from it. I wrote this piece using nothing really flashy like everyone else seems to be doing. I used Noteworthy Composer, with only my mouse and my mind. It's a cinematic multi-movement composition compiled of different themes, that gradually and chaotically come together at the end. It is titled, "Themes of an Angry Specter." I hope you enjoy. | |
| Schweitzer | Mechanoscape | 8.60 | 4 | Category: Orchestral Title: "Mechanoscape" Comment: A 'growth' piece for me. I am trying to expand my musical horizons, and this is part of that. The fast minor and slow major sections contrast, and are, at least for me, very different than the norm. I especially enjoy the tom/snare duet in the middle, just before the slow section. Written in the Cinematic style, best heard in SB Live! with Cadenza soundfont and Concert Hall EAX setting. Written in Sibelius 1.4, and touched up in Cakewalk. | |
| Alex Williamson | March, Elegy and Victory | 8.58 | 3 | File name: March/Elegy/Victory for Band in Eb Major. Category: Orchestral i suppose... Created with Voyetra's MIDI Orchestrator my manual insertion. Sound card... not sure. Very basic, Ensoniq I think. No sound font. | |
| Gerry Ellenson | Sometimes I Dance | 8.55 | 2 | The title pretty much says it all. Yamaha PSR 530, Cubasis, XGEdit, and lots of tweaking. | |
| Donya Quick | Great Wall | 8.46 | 1 | No description. | |
| Freddie | Chopping up Freddie | 8.30 | Configured for MerlinGM17 sound font, although all arrangements work well with GM or Roland soft synth. This MIDI experiment, (for the classical catagory) is the result of an idea to take a happy-go-lucky melodic piece and transform it into a suspenseful and spooky, cinematic piece with a much more powerful operettic approach to the same idea. These MIDI's are roughly based on Frederick Chopin's 11th, but approach the music with a completely different objective and result, as you will surely agree. | ||
| Edward Hirst | Cello & Strings | 8.28 | I'm 16 years old and would like some feedback on my composition. I wrote it from the piano but changed bits on Sibelius. | ||
| Anders Beijer | N.C.F. Theme | 8.16 | Category : orchestral. Description : I wrote this peace to my friends computergame he is making. I wrote the music with a "Yamaha PSR-530" so in that kind of synt it will sound best. This is the theme in the game and have the name "N.C.F. Theme"..... hope you will enjoy it..... | ||
| Schweitzer | Little Tree | 7.94 | "Little Tree- The Secret Place and Grandpa's Trade": Based on the novel "The Education of Little Tree", this selection musically represents Little Tree's mountain. Also, listen for Grandpa's Trade- Moonshining! Cadenza soundfont and EAX setting of Concert Hall are highly recommended. Written in Sibelius." | ||
| M. Huesak | My Clair de Lune | 7.88 | These songs are not original. The first, "Claire de Lune" was written by Claude Debussy. The second, "La Malaguena" was written by Albeniz. I would like to submit them to the contest. I do not wish them to be calculated, but I would like to see what scores they get. The arrangements are mine. I used the fret NOISE in these too, and I think it's an important component in the music, to get a realistic sound. | ||
| M. Huesak | My La Malaguena | 7.88 | See above. | ||
| Joseph Ernst | Camelot 2 | 7.85 | Category: Orchestral. Description: Semi-Cinematic... I wrote this in the style of an opening or closing theme for a musical. It alternates between joyous and pompous, but even the pompous is joyous (does that make sense?). Imagine a kingdom where the people love their king, their king is one of the people, and his celebration is theirs. What are they celebrating? Just a good life and life's blessings. And so should we all. | ||
| Paulo Galvăo | Concerto Italiano | 7.70 | I would like to submit this file to: Classical. Concerto Italiano. Baroque style. A piece for 5 course baroque guitar. Clear strong melodies "Alla Italiana", mixed with Harmonic development and virtuoso passages. I made it with StringWalker (tablature software with midi export). General midi sound 47. | ||

| Ron Roos | Tuna Salad | 7.55 | An impromptu inspiration that struck me first thing this morning, this one almost fell together by itself. Overall time into the song, about an hour and a half. Written entirely in Cakewalk Sonar with the mouse, and shaped with various CAL programs and expression controllers. This is going to be a great day, if this is any indication. You should hear the variation on this theme I wrote just after composing this one... "Tuna Melt".... probably too wierd for earthlings, so I decided to submit this one instead. hehe! I'll send the Tuna Melt to Mars. Enjoy! | ||
| Vidar Martinsen | Musical Happiness | 7.55 | Musical Happiness GM. Here is my latest tune. A Jazz Valz called Musical Happiness. Nice and eacy tune. | ||
| Stefan Wirnsperger | Theme 1 | 7.54 | I'm a 16 years old student from Austria. I've just started composing midi-files and I would like to know what other people think of my music. For this piece I used "NoteWorthy Composer 1.75". I'm rather inexperienced so I would be delighted if you could send me your opinion about my midi and suggestions for improvement. | ||
| Ron Roos | Percussion and Swearin | 7.35 | Composed a couple of months ago, just finished polishing this morning, configured for MerlinGM15 or 17 sound font. This was inspired by a short bongo riff called "wierd", that a few months ago Curt uploaded to the forum to demonstrate a point he was making about how to get different expressions from simple short sound with acute attack. I liked the bongo drums, and this is the result of that inspiration... or more accurately, one of many. This is my favorite of those. | ||
| Pawel Jurdziak | Waltz Theme | 7.30 | Title: Waltz Theme. Category: Non-Orchestral.
