I suppose there is nothing like The William Tell Overture (Lone Ranger Theme) that makes you think of riding a horse, but here is my attempt.

Waltz Suite (67K8), GM - Aug 4
Here are three small waltzes As with most suites, there should be some variation in either key, style or tempo, so the first one is a moderate classical waltz, the second a slow country waltz, and the third one is a bright classical waltz.

Bach's Rent (8K3), GM, FM Synth - Aug 6
Bach's Rent" (bachrent.mid) - classification of musical style: baroque/theatrical - 1 min. 7 sec. Composed & sequenced in 2000. This was my first original MIDI sequence, and my first composition using a MIDI compiler. It was essentially completed in about 8 man-hours. This has never been released publically in any way, so I suppose it qualifies for strictly amateur status. It was sequenced and mixed completely by hand using a 1996 edition of Voyetra Orchestrator Plus. The soundcard used for playback was an ESS ES-1869 (with the ESFM synthesizer). Like most of my organ pieces, it seems to translate better than other arrangements do going from this FM synth to others. I have never been wavetable-capable. I don't even know how to plug in a sound font. This tune now sounds like a dinosaur compared to what I have done since, but I remember the excitement and satisfaction I had with the results, and it seemed the most appropriate choice for a first entry in the contest. I wrote the beginning and ending first, then filled in the middle until I was satisfied with the overall shape and (modest) length of the tune. The basic motif of the tune is the old silent theater-melodrama "villain's theme", of which I am not certain if it is a proprietary musical phrase or not.

Mentum Mike's Boogie in E (boogie.mid) (32K8), GM, Yamaha OPLS - Aug 6
Musical style: rock rhythm section w/ bluesy neo-classical solos. Category: rock. Produced with MIDI compiler software on a 1994 Gateway with an ESS soundcard. Whatever you use to listen to this, it needs to have decent guitars (no ENSONIQUE FM synthesizers, especially - Yamaha/OPLS chipsets seem to do ok). Different fonts produce different mixed results.

Configured for Cadenza sound font, SB Live EA Reverb set to concert hall, 50% with chorus set to reverb, 4 channel, at 20%. This piece is for the classical catagory, although it could be considered a cinematic work, I suppose, as it is quite dramatic. Created in July, 2002, in Cakewalk Sonar.

The piece "haunt" is a basic theme in C Major that repeats several times, slowly "mutating" to C (W H W H W H W H) scale. short and sweet. I composed using Voyetra MIDI Orchestrator Plus on a Crystal audio? sound card.

The Mouse's Eye (210K), GM - Aug 14

Xtasi (20K), ?? - Aug 14
I'd like to submit this piece (which is called "Xtasi") for the August Contest. I was composed using both a mouse and keyboard and was one of the easiest songs I'd ever composed. This was written mainly to help me fall asleep. So the piece does have a Smooth Jazz feel to it (without an annoying saxophone lead). The title is no way related to the drug which is why it's spelled differently. It's really a romantic song to snuggle up with that special someone to.

Lanced (20K2), GM - Aug 15
This is an experimental piece that I wrote in December 1998 that starts off utilizing mostly whole tone scales harmonized over various rockin vamps that segues into some pretty basic diatonic licks over several different compound time signatures. The core melodies were written to emulate different (other than english) imagined speech patterns. This original MIDI composition I composed using Voyetra MIDI Orchestrator Plus on a Crystal audio? sound card.

Sonata No. 4 in F (125K7), GM - Aug 18
Equipment: Yamaha Clavinova CVP-98. Here is the 1st movement of my fourth piano sonata written in June of 1991 and completed in September of that same year. I decided to use a theme and variations approach to this work with is something I really enjoy writing. I have other works that employ this format but this movement is one of my favorites. The theme is a rather simple one, not technical or showy, but those elements are presented in the 7 variations that proceed it. The layout is as follows: Theme - Andantino, Var. 1 - Allegretto, Var. 2 - Allegretto ma non troppo, Var. 3 - Allegro, Var. 4 - Minore - Allegro Appassionato (F min), Var. 5 - Allegro Moderato, Var. 6 - Adagio Sostenuto (D-flat), Var. 7 - Allegro, Thema, Coda. This, like my last work, is rather long, coming in at about 14 minutes as compared to the last movement (it's only a two-movement sonata) which is about 4 minutes. Many times, my music has reminded listeners of the style of Beethoven. Beethoven has certainly been an influence on me over the years and it's a subconscious thing for me. I never sit down and say, "I'm going to compose this work like Beethoven". I'm never really aware of it until someone mentions it. After I played this movement again after all these years, I now realize that there is more of his influence in this work than any other I've written.

Pettit (24K3), XG - Aug 18
Very simple composition with the standard structure [a][a'] - [b][b'] - [a][a'] - [c][c'] - [a][a'] - [b][b'], so basically is a repetition. Nothing special. Best heard with YAMAHA S-YG20 (or the same family) Soft synthesiser. Technique: Composed in Music Time Deluxe.

Leave me Alone (31K), ?? - Aug 18

String Quartet Andante con Variazioni (50K), GM - Aug 24
This is a variation movement on Beethoven's last sketched Andante theme of 13 notes for his planned stringquintett. Especially the variations in minor mean very much to me. The piece is best heard with the latest Merlin soundfonts which I just recently was happy to install and which I earnestly recommend!

Recently i have developed tendonitus so I needed a way to saty creative withought the temptation of playing my guitar or pianno. I decided to sit down and use a program I have known as Sibelius 2. I decided to keep the sound of a standard Pianno for the sound file and im using a factory compaq sound card. I am a practacing guitar player of almost three years and a pianno student of six months. I am into lots of styles of music and I love to compose.

Blues for BDZ (24K1), GM - Aug 26
The subtitle could be "A very kind friend of mine has lent me his midi-keyboard, and I had a nice fun with it Blues". It`s dedicated to an ex-bass-guitarist friend of mine, for the memory of our cool sessions. (He is still alive, but he never plays in his instrument, yet). This little work was a good study for me to learn how can I play "one TWO three FOUR", on a metronome that always plays "ONE two three four":). This file sounds cool with Merlin soundfonts.

Suite A Minor (139K), GM - Aug 26
Title: Suite in a-minor (6 variations for Piano and Violin). It`s a suite from some variations one a simple theme. It is rather a collection of little pieces, than a variation-movement, so there is very few connecting part, and development. (however every movement starts "attacca") My only one goal was make very different, contrasting pieces from a melody that has born in my mind at a train-journey. The "movements": * Preludio * Var. I. Scherzando * Var. II. Toccatina * Var. III. alla Marcia * Var. IV. Fughetta * Var. V. Romanza * Var. VI. Tarantella * Postludio.

Symphony No.3 in D Minor, Op.30 (120K), ?? - Aug 29
It's the 1st movement, Allegro assai e con brio, of my Symphony No.3 in D Minor, Op.30. This is the 1st movement, Allegro assai e con brio, of my Symphony No.3 in D Minor, Op.30. It's in the early romantic style.(I think!!!) It was written in only 2 days, and I think it kicks ass for 2 days' work.............. But whether it's up to the standard or not.........that's up to you!.

Like a Torch in the Night (50K5), GM - Aug 29
A soft and very melodius ballad about light and warmth in relationships. It starts very calm but ends pretty much like a jubilent hymn. To me very exiting is the solo Cello in the instrumental part, especially with the Merlin soundfontsV2.3 (with this soundfonts I had only some trouble with the drums; make sure to have here the Standard emulation).

Symphony #1, Movement #3 - Scherzo (60K), GM - Aug 31
(Use default SBLive soundfonts, OR Lavio's EXCELLENT Merlin 2.2 soundfonts for the flute and oboe, and FABULOUS timpani) At last! The final installment of my first symphony! Now you own it ALL! LOL! Against the advice of a dear fellow composer, I elected to keep the same structure and number of (incredibly obnoxious) repeats - the reasons for which, dear Gerd, are best explained in Beethoven's 7th symphony, 3rd movement, in which he also repeated ad nauseum - but to GREAT effect - several elements of the 1st two halves of the first section throughout the movement, shortening it only for the final denoument, preparing us for, as George Bernard Shaw described it, the "apotheosis of the dance"! Pay attention to the fugato in the second trio - it's worth the whole movement. There are a LOT of things going on throughout, and if you can't hear 'em, then.........well, maybe you ought not to be grading classical pieces.

4 Waltzes for Susan (15K), GM - Aug 31
I hereby invite you to a Schubertiad! LOL! This is sort of a response to the pianistic endeavors of the few of you who think that lyricism and melody should NEVER be a component of what you write for the piano. These four short pieces - segued together in the way that Schubert might have conceived - are an invitation to a Schubertiad - you folks remember what that was, don't you? That was when a remarkably talented but indescript fat sort of lad in Austria in the 19th century would play impromptu sorts of concerts with the most famous singers and instumentalists of the day, ostensibly to promote musicality and the arts at large - but secretly to convince the ladies who attended such concerts that he was the sexiest man in Germany. Certainly, these four linked waltzes have gotten me into the heart of my beloved (and gotten me laid) more times than you can possibly imagine! Can anyone's other solo piano works boast the same - and if so, why? I certaintly haven't heard any melody or romantic harmony to give ME a woody....and surely, if I don't hear anything written from THIS year (2002, folks - and I am SOOOO tired of seeing submissions from folks who say, "...this is my sonata mucho impressivo from 1991"), you are DEFINITELY canned tuna. For cripes sake, out of love for my sweet Susan, I played impromptu and wrote this in 60 minutes, and recorded it while ridiculously drunk just to piss ALL of you off. Please use the best soundfont available you can get your hands on for a solo piano for this, but even the default SBLive 8mb fonts sound good because of the quality of the music. Sorry I sound so cocky, but I'd really love some actual competition here. Plus I'm drunk, and that always makes me unreasonably and happily belligerant. Kisses to all!

Via Saggio (57K7), GM - Aug 31
I am submitting my second piece to the contest. It's called "Via-Saggio," and it should be placed in the orchestral category. When I originally composed this piece, it was quite different, had an English title, and even had a drum line! This piece was made with Noteworthy Composer and is best heard with the Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth although Jet-MIDI with chorus and reverb turned on works well too.
