PROF COMPOSITION SCORE REVIEWER COMMENTS
B Josh's Rag 7.00 A very fun piece to listen to. For most of the song the rhythms are pretty redundant and predictable.  I think that’s the biggest problem I can think of, other than that it’s pretty good.
A Bach Fantasy
C Rozhnik 5.70 A simple but fun tune.  Redundant rhythm section with simple chord progressions and no harmony, but the thing that really kept this song moving was trading the melody off with different instruments and the brief off beat bassoon pattern.  I would have really like to hear some of the solo voices play together in harmony at some point.  A good start, but I think if you worked a little more with this song it could really be something great.
B A Little Weird Song 7.50 Now here’s a nice little weird song!  However I wish the melody was transformed a little more upon each repetition, particularly from a rhythmic standpoint.  The ending sounded good although the transition was a little abrupt.  It also sounds like your beginning to take the song to a new direction and extend it, but you’re really just ending it.
B Edit J. Forever 6.00 This song didn’t really catch my attention much.  The only really interesting thing I found in it were some of the little piano riffs in the background.  For the most part the song is pretty dull in my opinion.
A Symphony C minor mov 1
D Symphonydenada 7.00 Interesting piece!  Perhaps you could share a few words with us about what tonalities you were experimenting with.  The piano in track 7 go real annoying.  The one disappointment I found in this piece what that there was nothing tying it together at all.  First of all the each different section of the piece consisted of new voices, many times excluding the previous voices.  I just wish you had use all your voices together at one point.  Maybe mix all the ideas you have laid out at the end together in one great cacophony of sound.  To make the piece more interesting, MIDI wise, I recommend panning across that annoying piano part back and forth.  May sound a little wierd, but so is your song.  :)
A Trio Opus 44
A Concerto 53
A Piano Sonata 3
C Brandenberg Echoes 8.20 A lengthy MIDI, but worth every minute!  There were many interesting and beautiful parts, and some parts that I found less appealing.   I'm not quite sure, but sometimes if felt like you've hung around one idea a little too long.  I think these parts are the times when my mind began to wander.  There were however many great moments.
C The Lost Flamenco 8.70 Nice touch with the mandolin!  I felt the piece was up and down to much between each section with long pauses.  Some modulation would have been nice for a more realistic sound, but other than that it sounds great.  Your song ended with a little flare at the end, but I think it would have been nice to reintroduce the lively section at m100 and end with a grand finale.
A Journey 8.00 Most of this sounds rather intriguing and out of the ordinary.  Very strident some of it, I wish the tempo was faster in many places.  The effects used in this song keeps the interest above the dragging tempo so it’s stays fairly interesting to the end.  Try listening to the song on double speed, you might get an idea of what I’m talking about... it sounds cool fast!
B The Blue Sea 8.00 This song has somewhat of a magical quality to it.  Sounds great and portrays a blue sea very well.  Sometimes it sounded a little too doodley and not quite enough to the point of what is trying to be said, but not too bad most of the time I think.  The warm pad sounded like a person singing at the end, it was cool!
C Freddy's Morning Daybreak 7.20 Nice song, the story line isn't as interesting as The Depot's, but neither is the song.  Sounds nice though and dipicts your story well.
C The Depot 8.50 Very creative and inventive piece with fun-filled licks from every member of the band.  Now to really make yrou song come alive, I recommend throwing in some extra effects and controllers.  First of all, I would love to hear some pitch-bend wheeling from the trombones and maybe the clarinets.  Definately some vibrato as well (from the modulation controller).  Also some panning from one side to the other might be a cool effect to simulate the fire truck driving by.  Expression would be nice, but I don't think marching band really pay much attention to that anyway, so, righto, off you go...
B Day Dream 6.50 Sound very nice.  I think it could really use an introductory extension of some sort.  Where you ended the song, it would be cool to make an acoustic guitar solo there.  Then you can bring the flute back in after that and end the song.  This may also lead to opportunities for a counter melody at the end or harmonies between the flute and the new soloist what ever you decide to choose.  The song is a little short so I think this might help.  I like some of the rhythm changes in this song.  Doesn’t sound very real though, especially since there are no breaks for the flute player to breath, this also causes problems with determining phrases and sections throughout the piece.
B Yukon Territory 6.70 Beautiful song.  This song is also pretty short and could be extended in the same ways I mentioned in Day Dream.  I really liked the melody in this song, very catchy.  I think one of the great things you did that kept things interesting were the short staccato notes, it was a nice change in flavor.  I would love to hear some harmonies at the part around m28.
C Final Battle 8.50 Very energetic piece.  Catchy melody and keeping things interesting.  The short pause you had at times were a nice effect, but it just didn't really flow to well with the piece, extremely abrupt.  I was also confused what the ending section had to do with the piece.  Is this after the battle is over?  Very cool song though, I enjoyed the whole thing.
C Opening Fire 7.50 The beginning was really slow paced, but I suppose if it has a visual image on the screen to play against, then that might help keep the listener awake.  After the beginning, the rhythms in this song keep things lively throughout.  A little repetitive with lots of sequencing patterns.  But then again it would work for a game.  But as it's self, it doesn't stand well on it's own.
B Spanish Impressions 8.00 Nice trumpet solo at the beginning, the vibrato really kept it alive.  A suggestion I have though to keep it more interesting it to not hang around the same basic notes the whole time.  Explore the full range of the trumpet and don’t return to the same holding notes so much.  Interesting mix of styles.  It would have been nice to hear some triplet turns in the guitar part that starts at m26, it might help bring out the Spanish style a little more.  Interesting harmonies at the m38 section, in fact a lot of the dissonant harmonies you have chosen for this song sound great and were well-treated!
C Never Forgotten   My own song.  No comment.
B When I Dream of You   My own song.  No comment.
A Trio Fugue in G minor
A Introit and Kyrie
A Violin Concert 1, mov 1
B Will you be my Valentine 7.10 The stiff quarter note pulse feels a little strident after awhile, especially during the first chorus.  There were at time in the piano part, like the verse after the first chorus were you had a few moments of synchopation and variation, but that was short lived.  I think your song should be longer too.  I felt like at m39 where the piano comes in to end the song, that felt like it should be a piano solo section to me and then you can bring in the chorus again after the solo even bigger than the other ones and then end your song with the little intro bit you had.  The sound does sound really nice though, it just needs a little more flavoring added to it.
A Opus 11 v2002
B Spinnaker 8.30 A very cool sounding piece with a nice melody.  The flute part at time went below low it's range (which is middle C) unless you are using an alto flute, but I just thought I'd let you be aware incase you happen to try to perform this live.  M75 was a nice style change, otherwise I'd have to bug you about variety...  good job.  The ending was rather wierd though.
A 2nd Symphony, vivace 9.00 Though an obvious recurring idea, I thought the pizzicato thing at the beginning was rather cheesy, but the delightful melody that followed redeemed itself.  Great blending of voices and ideas as well.  Good development.  Though not typical in some traditional orchestral scores, I think a little more percussion added would really add some nice flavor to it - some cymbals, snare drum, bells, chimes... and more timpani most of all.  I thought the ending was somewhat creative, but it just didn't feel like you did it justice.  I felt the tension and the anticipation building as the tempo pulled back while ascending chromatically into something big, but it never really happens.  I guess you could consider this somewhat unpredictable and comical if that is what you're aiming at, but I just don't think the ending had enough kick to it.  An extremely lovable song though, well written and I thoroughly enjoyed it!  Bravo!
C Under Attack 8.50 Excellant piece of work!  The song would be even more magical with a little more MIDI technique work though.  I was diappointed by the ending because I wasn' t expecting it at all; there was nothing leading to any sort of anticipation for an ending.  Some of the material is a little cliché in this piece, but it is still a very impressive piece of work.
A Forty 8.80 The suspensions are nice, but the piece feels way too susenuto or legato other than the pizzicato.  Some more variety in articulation from the sustaining voice would be nice, some short notes here and there.  The brass coming in there were a great change though!  They sounded great and really kept things lively.  Some note lengths need some more attention, like the clarinet on the last few notes really hanging over on the q
D Wiraqcha 5.50 A interesting piece of work with some great ideas.  But I gotta admit, my mind really wandered on this piece; didn’t keep my attention at all.
A Flight of Fancy 8.90 Not really much to say but great song!  Great from the very beginning the end.  I think if you separated some of the separate lines into separate tracks you could do some effects like modulation and wheeling on the melody line or the bass part.  Or a pannng across the spectrum with certain notes might be a cool stereophonic effect.  I really enjoyed the natural sound of the guitar playing, almost sounds like a real live player.

TOTAL AVERAGE 7.61 I had already started some of the reviews without the extra scoring specifications before it was given out, so I just did the rest without as well.
