| SCORE = Average (Tech.+Original & Comp) + Other | ||||||
| Josh's Rag | 9.00 | 8.20 | 9.8 | Great piano piece! I'd like to hear this one played live. | ||
| Bach Fantasy | ||||||
| Rozhnik | 7.25 | 7.5 | 7 | |||
| A Little Weird Song | 7.00 | 8 | 6 | |||
| Edit J. Forever | 6.00 | 7 | 5 | |||
| Symphony in C minor, mov 1 | ||||||
| Symphonydenada | 7.50 | 7 | 8 | Great ideas, could have been developed more though and been a bit more listenable in a few places | ||
| Trio Opus 44 | ||||||
| Concerto 53 | ||||||
| Piano Sonata 3 | ||||||
| Brandenberg Echoes | Couldn't make it play, probably something wrong with my computer still. | |||||
| The Lost Flamenco | 9.75 | 9.5 | 10 | Seems pretty straight-forward to follow in my opinion, the temp/meter changes happen where they're "expected" in the structure progression of the piece so it works quite well. Great guitar work, some of the best I've ever heard in midi. | ||
| Journey | 7.10 | 7.2 | 7 | |||
| The Blue Sea | ||||||
| Freddy's Morning Daybreak | 7.55 | 7 | 8.1 | Good composition overall, but the rhythm could have had more variation, especially in the strings and brief sections with percussion. | ||
| The Depot | 8.90 | 8 | 7.8 | 1.00 | Hillarious composition! Definitely some good bits of humor captured, which is a dificult thing to do in music, especially in midi. (extra points for that) | |
| Day Dream | 7.70 | 7.9 | 7.5 | |||
| Yukon Territory | 7.70 | 7.9 | 7.5 | Sounds like it could have been a continuation of the previous piece, Day Dream. All the thematic ideas are very much the same. | ||
| Final Battle | 8.50 | 8.2 | 8.8 | Do I hear a bit of Sailor Moon movie themes sneaking in? lol just noticed that in a few interesting useages of instruments that seem similar stylistically in the first part. I don't quite understand the gaps in the middle though. | ||
| Opening Fire | 8.95 | 8.8 | 9.1 | Great usage of driving and conflicting rhythms in the various instruments. That last part at the end though was a bit out of place… | ||
| Spanish Impressios | 10.00 | 10 | 10 | Wonderful! I always love hearing fusions of styles, and this one is perfect. I couldn't resist picking up my classical guitar and jamming along with it. I'd add extra points on for the very real feel, but the score's already a 10 lol Bravo! | ||
| Never Forgotten | 8.15 | 8.4 | 7.9 | |||
| When I Dream of You | 8.10 | 8.2 | 8 | Nice piano piece, very predictable through most sections though with the unique sounds only coming near the end. | ||
| Trio Fugue in G minor | ||||||
| Introit & Kyrie | ||||||
| Violin Concert 1, mov 1 | ||||||
| Will you be my Valentine | 6.85 | 6.5 | 7.2 | |||
| Opus 11 v2002 | ||||||
| Spinnaker | 8.15 | 8 | 8.3 | Nice jazz work, seemed repetative though | ||
| 2nd Symphony, vivace | ||||||
| Under Attack | 9.00 | 9 | 9 | Reverb! This piece screams for reverb! (I do not score controls and such though so it is just a comment on the side). I love the use of harpsichord. I know what it is supposed to describe, but it sounds very comical in places (it fits the piece, though I don't know if it was intentional). It just needs to be longer... | ||
| Forty | ||||||
| Wirqcha | 6.65 | 6.5 | 6.8 | Interesting ideas, but very chopped phrases that lacked continuety (lack of continuety can be effective sometimes, but if it is overused it creates confusion) | ||
| Flight of Fancy | ||||||
| Average: | 7.99 | |||||
| Technical | Instrument usage, effectiveness of orchestration (where it applies), rhythm. Note: Technical does NOT mean Controls! | |||||
| Originality & Composition | Originality, flow of composition, harmony, overall sound of piece | |||||
| Other | Added points for exceptional demonstration of various characteristics (an emotion, sounds live, etc.) | |||||
| Comment | I have not judged category A this month for reasons of lack of time (it's a big category!) and it does get many reviews normally. In the pieces I have reviewed, there are many very good works, with a lot of improvement in the "all quarter notes" sound that has happened a lot in previous months. Also, this month I broke my scoring down into the elements I judge so I can judge faster and let excel do the math (every saved second adds up). | |||||
