Daring (78K5), GM - Aug 14

Midi allows something that has not been possible before: to play an improvisation with a whole orchestra "at your fingertips". This Midi file "Daring" has been sequenced by live play of all the instruments. It is not quantized into bars, and the note beginnings are not quantized to any measure. That produces slight inaccuracies, which were deliberately not corrected in order to keep that live feeling. Each voice was recorded separately in segments and overlaid onto the existing tracks. At the end, the various snippets and segments were connected into one file. The theme: a musical portrait, or rather a sketch, of a person, who is fun-loving and a little daring..."

The Authority (13K5), GM - Aug 14

Powerful piece of music containing choir, strings and timpani. Overwhelming sounds and loud, powerful sections make this a daunting piece conveying omnipotence. I used the SB Live! value soundcard and the standard 4MB soundfont that comes with it. I used MIDI Orchestrator Plus to compose it.

Metamorphosis (30K3), GM - Aug 14

This piece is unusual in that the atmosphere or overall mood of the piece changes very suddenly. It changes with no warning from flowing, romantic melodies to disjointed, agitated passages. It is also in five time so the beat is uneasy especially in the tense sections. Instruments include strings, piano and acoustic guitar. I composed this using the 4MB soundfont on my SB Live! value soundcard and used the sequencer Cubasis VST.

Short Piece in D (8K8), GM - Aug 14

Click Here to Review Shaker Cannon 2!

My classical entry for August is *AN ARRANGEMENT* of the Shaker Melody and Pachebel's Canon together. The title is "A Shaker Canon". This piece has been in the works for a long time, and I consider it one of my better pieces.

Concerto 1 for Strings, Trio and Orchestra, andante (29K5), GM - Aug 23

Click Here to Review Concerto 1 for Strings!

I am submitting is the Andante movement of my 'Concerto for String Trio and Orchestra'. This work should be included in the orchestral category. I wrote the piece in the winter of 2000-2001 originaly as a Violin Concerto, but then added the solo viola and cello parts to make it more interesting.

Ave Maria version 2 (32K6), GM - Aug 24

I composed this piece as a midi fugue for two guitars, but then later performed it as a duet for two pianos. This is  the original guitar midi.

Alice's Vacation (172K), GM - Aug 30

Click Here to Review Alice s Vacation!

Orchestral song, dynamic and a bit strange, written for Roland VSC-88, although works fine for General MIDI as well. Started this composition a couple of weeks ago in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0 and finished it today, using Cakewalk Sonar 1.1, which I just installed yesterday. A mix of step entry and live entry using a keyboard interface with a Yamaha synthesizer. Various filters applied, which came with Sonar. Join Alice on her trip.

3094 AD Movement 1 (64K8), GM - Aug 21 Click Here to Review 3096 AD!
The long-awaited prequal to movements 2 and 3 has arrived for full orchestra!!! Imagine yourself in a star fighter, being chased by pirates through an asteroid field. The pirates chasing you are ready to kill, thus the suspensefull music. Your superior flying abillities finally pay off at the end, though (thus I switch to major chords). Enjoy!

March of the Ants (33K6), GM - Aug 23 Click Here to Review March of the Ants!
SB Live! and 4M soundfont.

Buffet for Brass (42K8), GM - Aug 23 Click Here to Review Buffet for Brass!
GM Format (1) S. Card = SB Live with 8MB emu font. The trumpet doodle at the beginning reminded me of the old PacMan game, in the sense that the trumpets seemed to be eating up the notes - Hence the title "Buffet For Brass". This gave me the idea of trying to create a medley of sounds that would be fun for a large brass ensemble or even a full size Drum Corps to play. A blend of styles ( & humor) that includes everything from a march to jazz with a hint of Classical. Bon Apitite!

Fountain (42K1), GM - Aug 25 Click Here to Review Fountain!
It's an accompanying music to a documentary film about Versailles' fountains.

POP - ROCK - RHYTHM

Juan Circled (31K3), GM - Aug 2 Click Here to Review Juan Circled!
Gear: Cakewalk 6.0 SB Live soundcard.  Category Rock/Pop.
Comment: I created this midi by step editing. Fairly minute adjustments were made to timings by hand, in order to try and achieve a natural sound. When I had finished the basic guitar track I was so happy with what I had, that I decided to keep everything pretty simple from that point on, and keep any further additions to a minimum. Enjoy.

Dawn (28K7), GM - Aug 10 Click Here to Review Dawn!

I wrote this song with the idea of the "Lion King" kind of dawn. Where the sun is supposed to be awe-inspiring and majestic! This song starts out soft and quiet as would a night sky just before the sun comes up, and then shifts  gear. I used Finale 2000, keyboard, and SoundBlaster 128PCI Soundcard.

The Way of the World (40K5), Gm - Aug 12 Click Here to Review The Way of the World!
Length: 3:56 Specs: Made with GuitarPro 2.2 on an SBLive soundcard.
Description: A seemingly innocent soft-rock song, it mixes 4/4, 3/4 and 7/8 time. It starts out with only acoustic guitar (some of you may think for too long), and then the main song comes in. It features acoustic guitar, vocals,  and jazz guitar at first and eventually drums and bass kick in, leading  eventually to some distortion guitar with background harmonies. Somewhat repetitive, but I believe it works best that way.

Lady of the Ages (62K), GM - Aug 12 Click Here to Review Lady of the Ages!
This is an older work of mine, but I'm curious what kind of  feedback it'll get, so I submitted it. It's a mostly soft progressive rock featuring acoustic guitar, distortion guitar (power chords), jazz and distortion lead guitars, vocals (bassoon), bass guitar, and drums. It is fairly dynamic and fairly unique in its sound, being soft at times, and  harder at others. It ends on a completely different second part.

Still Carrying the Torch (15K5), XG - Aug 19 Click Here to Review Still Carrying the Torch!
Not much of anyone seems to compose in the old "torch song" genre anymore. A willowy blonde steps up to the mic in a dimly lit, smokey club. A soft blue spotlight bathes her. She looks down to hide her tears as she sings her heart out about her lost love.

During the month of June, I had no musical appliances to my disposal; and since there was nowhere to put down my ideas, they all just stacked themselves in whatever room I had in my brain. After returning home from France, I immediately got on CakeWalk and started composing. Here is the first part of my piece. Hope you enjoy.

This tune has more layers than a wedding cake!!!! Guitar was used on "lead" string tracks. Crank it up!!!!

Egypnotechnic (95K), XG - Aug 12 Click Here to Review Egypnotechnic!
What sets this techno piece apart from most is its dream-like sound as apposed to most techno pieces with a constant drum loop and melody being played over and over until it's driven into your head. The piece sounds to  me like it is describing some kind of fast-paced james bond type mission  through Egypt... Yeah, it's basically alot of crazy stuff... or something  like that... if you've got a better description just let me know!

Masamune (60K), GM - Aug 28 Click Here to Review Masamune!
This piece was initially composed as an experiment in motives and interwoven themes after listening to 2 hours of non-stop techno on an airplane. It seems like good traveling music to me.
