CLASSICAL

Mirage (246K), GM - July 9

An orchestral fantasy, with piano improvisation.
Rendered on a PC, using Cakewalk ProAudio 9.04. Originally for multiple sound synthesizers (soundfonts, Yamaha MU-80), this submitted version is a mix-down for SoundBlaster only, using the 4GSGM (4MB)
soundfont. Idea and inspiration to this work: emotions... just listen, and you might feel.

Flying Free (11K), GM - July 11

Click Here to Review Flying Free!

This piece is a simple, flowing, song-like melody.  I used light orchestration to more emphasize the melody.  Piano and flute make up the accompaniment while violins make up the voices.

Miona (12K), GM - July 14

This is my midi song for the contest. It is in the "classical" category. This song took me about a year to compose and it was originally done on the piano. It was made up of several little "tunes" I had written separately and eventually I found a way to peice them together into what is now known as "Miona". This is my most prideful piece.

Adagio No 2 in G major (13K4), GM - July 15

Click Here to Review Adagio no 2!

Ive attempted a classical piece. To compose this I utilized my Packard Bell computer and Noteworthy Composer software...and thats it. Ive been tinkering with midi for about a year now and Im just now trying to get a "feel" for multi-point controlling (expression etc.) so bear with me if its sounds amateurish...it is!

Melancholic Impromptu for flute and piano (5K), GM - July 17

Click Here to Review Melancholic Impromptu!

Notated on Cakewalk Home Studio 7 with a Microsoft Software Wavetable Synthesizer featuring Roland Sound Canvas digital samples. A short flute and piano duet . nuff said!

Comments: written with Sibelius, a mixture of styles.

Opening Theme (23K2), GM - July 20

Click Here to Review Opening Theme!

Written using Guitar Pro with a SoundBlaster Live card.
Comments: This is the beginning of an orchestral/piano piece that I'm working on. I suppose you could call it "Classical Thunder."

Avalon (23K), GM - July 20

Written using Guitar Pro with a SoundBlaster Live card.
Comments: This is an excerpt from an orchestral/piano piece that I'm working on. This part features woodwinds, strings, and brass, piano and more and has a bit of an "inspirational" sound to it.

Missing You for Emu 4M & 8M (75K7) and Missing You for Cadenza & Merlin (76K), GM - July 20

Click Here to Review Missing You!

Written with Cakewalk and SBLive . One version is for the 4M & 8M Emu soundfonts, it uses the Voice Oohs in track 6. The other version uses a violin in track 6 for Cadenza and Merlin soundfonts (there is BIG difference, very interesting to appreciate). Note: the original voice oohs works ONLY in Emu soundfonts. Others I don't know, maybe you should set track 6 for synth voice if the originals don't work good enough. It is very important to listen track 6 using the right instrument. Not my fault. It's a midi flaw and I don't want to receive a low score because of a midi flaw! :-)

Pure Joy (18K3), GM - July 20

Click Here to Review Pure Joy!

This is not as polished as I had hoped, but it's the first decent piece I've written in two months (and since I'm leaving on vacation, I don't have a chance to improve the piece). This song chronicles a person's search for God, wandering, and wandering, until finally he finds Him, and is enraptured in pure joy henceforth. The strings are symbolic of God (as in
the Old Testament, people sang to God with harps and lutes).

Trio (14K4), GM - July 26

A piece for violin, viola and piano. I've added StringEnsemble 1 for more realistic sound - it follows the violin but in the lower register. The piece is created in MidiSoft Studio, sound card Creative AWE 64.

The Tidaanians Attack (131K), GM - July 15 Click Here to Review Attack!
This piece of music is inspired by the PC CD ROM game - Cataclysm, and is based on a visualized scene from the game if it were to be in movie format. It is aimed at representing a high tempo battle, the end of the music symbolizing a surrender. The music created is inspired by James Horner's sci-fi film compositions. The MIDI file is done in GM format and SoundBlaster AWE 32 was used. Also, Evoloution Audio was used to compose the music.

What is it, really?

The Battle (70K5), GM - July 22 Click Here to Review The Battle!
"The Battle" is a cinematic composition that is supposed to musically represent a fictitious battle between two great armies. Somewhere in the great battle, an uncommon hero arises to lead the good side to victory. This hero can be heard as the offbeat brass and woodwinds pound away underneath the melody. The composition has three sections: The Gathering of the Armies, The Battle, and The Aftermath. Enjoy!

Storm (46K), GM - July 2

Gear: Cakewalk 6.0, Vibra 128 Soundcard
Comment: This piece isn't about bad weather. The Storm is what's inside someone's head when they are full of confusion and self-hate. That's the mood I'm trying to convey with this piece...kind of a sad, desperate feeling.

Nocturne (169K), GM - July 10 Click Here to Review Nocturne!
Best if played through Roland VSC. Nocturne got it's name because it was written in the wee hours of the morning I used various sequencers to create short melodic phrases, and compiled them in Cakewalk Pro Audio 9.0, where the whole thing was modified extensively, enhanced with some step-entry and polished in the expression editor.

Arthropod Squad (197K), GM - July 10

Click Here to Review Arthropod Squad!

This song was inspired by the incredible insect activity in the evenings up here in the So.Cal. mountains during late spring / early summer. When I wrote it, moths were swarming around my monitor. If ya can't beat 'em, join 'em.... I just went with the flow, and let the environment influence the music. I used some pieces of other songs submitted here in this composition, and I've tried to apply some of the critiques  from the reviews of those other songs I've submitted and tried not to make the same mistakes. ... We'll see in the end, if I learned anything.
